UAE Approves Design for Nation’s First Hybrid Heliport to Support Helicopters and Air Taxis

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has taken a major step forward in advancing urban air mobility by approving the design for its first hybrid heliport. It will accommodate both traditional helicopters and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The GCAA has issued the design approval. This is a further step in the country’s development of environmentally friendly and technologically sophisticated transportation systems.
Strategic Importance and Location:-
The heliport will be located at the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal at Zayed Port. Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal is strategically located at a regional cruise destination which receives more than 650,000 visitors on a yearly basis. This central location facilitates transport and highlights the role of the port as a hub for modern vertical flight transportation.
Key Stakeholders and Collaboration:-
The hybrid heliport is being developed through a strong collaboration involving:
- AD Ports Group
- Falcon Aviation Services
- Archer Aviation
These organizations bring together expertise in port operations, aviation services, and next-generation eVTOL technology to create a pioneering model of integrated air mobility.
A Hybrid Design for the Future:-
As the first of its kind in the UAE, the heliport is designed to support both:
- Traditional helicopters
- eVTOL aircraft, such as Archer’s Midnight model
This dual-capability infrastructure positions the UAE as a leader in preparing for the future of urban air transport by integrating cutting-edge electric aviation technology into its existing transport ecosystem.
Broader Vision and Future Plans:-
The hybrid heliport is part of a broader infrastructure network planned by Archer Aviation in the UAE. Early commercial operations of air taxis are expected to begin in partnership with Abu Dhabi Aviation (ADA), signaling the start of a new era of sustainable, fast, and accessible urban transport in the region.
